The Competitive Trail Ride (CTR) Division, as we know it today, became an official reality in 1967. Until then, it was a part of the Trails and Pleasure Division. It was a very active group in the 1950s and 1960s with at least two clubs sponsoring approved rides.
The Lorang Ranch, a few miles out of Tenino, was the focal point of the CTR division for many years. Numerous competitive rides started at the Lorangs. The Spring and Fall Meetings were all held at the ranch campgrounds, seated around a campfire. The most luxurious R.V. you would find there was a tent!
As the CTR division grew larger, the number of rides increased, and in 1971, and in 1971 we had our first professional rule book printed. It consisted of nineteen pages, expanding to 36 pages by 1996.
"Competitive Trails rides are open to everyone."
